Somewhere between the police and the pollsters sits the legal profession, with zero net trust.
That figure comes from Visual Capitalist’s chart of the 2026 Ipsos Global Trustworthiness Index, which asks people in 31 countries whether they find each of a few dozen professions trustworthy or untrustworthy and nets the two. Doctors come out at plus 43. Scientists and teachers are close behind. Judges and the police sit at plus five. Then us, at precisely nothing, one notch above pollsters at minus two and TV news anchors at minus three.
Net trust is the share who call a profession trustworthy minus the share who call it untrustworthy, averaged equally across 31 countries from an online survey in June and July 2026. A zero means the believers and the doubters cancel out exactly, whatever the number of people in the middle who couldn’t say.
Every person who has had a lawyer save them is offset by one who has had a lawyer be an adversary.
So: that’s ... good, I guess?!
